Parametric and nonparametric tests for genetic association studies

چکیده

Correlation among multiple complex traits has been believed to have a significant impact on genetic association testing. However, such correlation is difficult to account for in both genetic association studies and statistical methodologies. For complex diseases, especially mental illnesses and behavioral disorders, the traits are often measured on an ordinal scale. Although proportional odds logistic models have widely been used for the analysis of ordinal traits in genetic association studies, it still remains difficult to analyze the correlation. To overcome this difficulty, we propose a parametric model called multivariate proportional odds logistic model and a concept of correlation coefficient. The proposed model presents the potentials to test multiple, correlated traits simultaneously in association analysis, which is more powerful than testing a single trait at a time. In addition, since covariates such as environmental factors also play an important role in genetic association studies, we propose nonparametric tests to adjust for covariate effects. A maximum statistic is proposed to achieve optimal power and its asymptotic distribution is derived. Colloquium

Investigating the Factors Affecting Energy Consumption in the Iranian Agricultural Sector Using Parametric and Nonparametric Methods

Abstract In order to study energy consumption in Iran's agricultural sector, a Genetic algorithm concept was used to calculate significant factors affecting energy consumption between 1974 and 2008. Then, durability or "stability" of variables was assessed through econometric method (Augmented Dickey-Fuller test). In addition, long-term and short-term relationships of energy consumption were es...

Validation of drop plate technique for bacterial enumeration by parametric and nonparametric tests

Drop plate technique has a priority and preference compared with the spread plate procedure, because of less time, quantity of media, effort requirement, little incubator space, and less labor intensive. The objective of this research was to compare the accuracy and fidelity of drop plate method vs. spread plate method by parametric and nonparametric statistical tests. For bacterial enumeration...

Modeling Multiple Responses via Bootstrapping Margins with an Application to Genetic Association Testing.

The need for analysis of multiple responses arises from many applications. In behavioral science, for example, comorbidity is a common phenomenon where multiple disorders occur in the same person. The advantage of jointly analyzing multiple correlated responses has been examined and documented. Due to the difficulties of modeling multiple responses, nonparametric tests such as generalized Kenda...

A comparison of parametric and non-parametric methods of standardized precipitation index (SPI) in drought monitoring (Case study: Gorganroud basin)

The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is the most common index for drought monitoring. Although the calculation of this index is usually done by using the gamma distribution fitting of precipitation data, studies have shown that for accurate monitoring of drought, the optimal distribution of precipitation in each month should be determined. On the other hand, in non-stationary time series,...
